Naked Cancer
Naked Raku
Naked Raku is essentially a non-glazed technique where the final effect reveals a bare ceramic body. The preparation process is more intricate and demanding. The ceramic pieces require special, often hours-long polishing. The surfaces must be smoothed to perfection so that the glaze peels away entirely from the body in the final firing stage.
Similar to the basic glazed Raku technique, ceramics are removed from the kiln with special tongs at a temperature of approximately 1000°C and subjected to smoking. This process allows smoke to penetrate the cracks (craquelure), creating extraordinary patterns and dots. Additionally, decorative drawings can be applied to enhance the aesthetic appeal.
After cleaning and cooling the pieces in water, they are finished with waxing, for instance, using a mixture of beeswax and linseed oil.
